Momentum is not a tangible item that you can pick up and put in your pocket but it is a real, powerful thing. Like a snowball rolling down a hill, slow to start but once momentum picks up steam it is extremely difficult to stop. The challenge with momentum is that it can be both good or bad. Let’s focus on creating some positive momentum and how to hang on to it.
Focus on these 3 keys to generate and keep momentum on your side.

Get Moving
Imagine you are a hurdler and have to jump over a 42-inch (yeah, they are that high) hurdle. Try to do that from a stagnant position and more than likely you are going to end up with a face full of dirt. With a running start and some rhythm, now you are flying over the 42-inch hurdle. Life and business are similar in that regard, start moving forward and create the energy that will turn into momentum. For so many the first step is the hardest but once you take it, each step builds on top of the other.

Celebrate Wins
“Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing”. As a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan, that quote from legendary coach Vince Lombardi has always spoken to me. No win is too small to celebrate! Small wins build confidence and are part of enjoying the journey. If you make celebrating your wins a habit, it’s amazing to see the positivity “vibe” that starts to spread. This will inevitably become part of your culture and momentum follows.
Crush Your Big 3
Setting goals and stretching ourselves is vitally important to achieving your vision. This is certainly not earth-shattering news and yes, I feel your collective “groan” about another person talking about goals. I’m talking about maniacally focusing each day on crushing the 3 most important goals to move the needle. Forget about the endless task list and busy work. What is most important right now? Figure out your Big 3 and don’t waiver or be tempted by the next shiny object.
Momentum can be defined as “mass in motion”. Think about how difficult it would be to stop that snowball that has turned into a giant snowball halfway down the hill. Easy to do when it fit in the palm of your hand at the top of the mountain but now it’s like a Volvo flying down the mountain. Focus on moving, celebrating your wins and crushing your big 3 to create your momentum. You will have more fun and be tough to stop!
